- Pray for the New Believers in the villages, that they would stay strong and resist the pull of their cultures to return to alcoholism, polygamy and violence
- Pray for the young pastors that are shepherding the people here. They are so committed and devoted to the people, but really struggle to care for their families due to poverty and sickness.

- Pray for our Celebrate Recovery ministry, for managing alcoholism addiction. We are just beginning the process, but have delayed due to challenges with facilitators. We have chosen the "champions" that will run the groups, and organizing for a short term Celebrate Recovery ministry team to mentor the champions and to come and help us begin the ministry. We have the training materials developed. We need to have some US facilitators come and inspire and teach our champions how to begin their groups.

December 2023. It's Waffle's birthday this month! Pray for his health and strength to meet the challenges here. We need to take the Land Crusier to have the 4WD repaired. We have tried many places in Uganda, and spent plenty of money, only to have it break again in a short time. We need to get the Kenyan experts on it, so we plan a 2 week Kenyan trip after Christmas. Pray that we an find a good mechanic to get us back on those rough roads again!
November 2023. It's a busy month for veterinarians! We have a wonderful group of international veterinarians joining us for ministry up in the forests of Mt. Elgon. We will do vet outreaches and share the gospel in the villages. There will be vets from Ghana, Kenya and Tanzania joining our Uganda vets and vet studetns, with Val. Val loves to teach the vet students, so it's going to be a great time together. Please pray for everything to go smoothly and safely.

August 2023. We have some wonderful visitors coming from Northside Community Church in Albany, Oregon. We look forward to doing some construction with them, as well as holding a Spiritual Retreat for our Non-Timothy/Scholarship students. It's going to be a blast working with them and sharing our hearts and lives together. Pray for the students, that the retreat will be one of fun and joy, together with deepening of their spiritual walk.
June - July 2023. Val is going to be in the USA during this time. She missed going on furlough last year, due to the Karamoja famine. She really needs some quality time with family and friends, and looks forward to visiting all of the churches, if possible. Pray for rest and recovery from all the stresses and strains that are going on. Pray for Waffle, who will be "Home Alone"!
May 2023. Pray for the Tepeth people, who live up on the mountains all around Karamoja. Their language has never been written, so they have no Bible to read. We have an ECD (nursery school) in their communities, where we are trying to teach the children their own language. Now, Wycliffe has contacted us and would like to work with us to translate an oral Bible, as well as the Jesus film! that will be so amazing!! Pray that we can coordinate things well and that the communities will unite behind this ministry.
April 2023. Pray for unity and teamwork for the CLIDE team. There are many stresses coming up and we long for good communications, improved cross-cultural understanding and building up of one another in our fellowships. Pray for the young children who are going through famine right now. Pray that we can get enough food to feed them, as well as have times of Bible study and prayer to encourage them.
March 2023. Pray for our visitors from Good Shepherd Community Church. We are realy looking forward to some fellowship with them and some good adventures! Pray for the churches and women that we are plowing for. Pray that their crops grow well and bring a good harvest, that will bring praise to the Lord!
February 2023. Waffle is back, with a Tractor!!! "Kubota" is now a new word in Karamojong! He has purchased the implements and will begin plowing soon, to get the ground ready for the upcoming rains! We also have seeds for the families to plant: sorghum, maize, beans and black eyed peas.
January 2023. Famine is getting worse here. The dry season is extreme and the drought withers away any wild herbs that the people may have been able to collect. We pray that the rains can come well in March and bring life back to these villages.
December 2022. Pray for Waffle's travels back to Uganda from the USA. he had a good, but short, furlough and was able to see many of our friends and family members. Unfortunately, Val wasn't able to come. Please pray for her. She misses everyone and is having many challenges.
Also pray for the CLIDE Team. There is division coming up on the team and spiritual warfare that is weakening our Team Unity. Please pray for understanding, grace and harmony.
November 2022. We have 4 new Baptist churches in Moroto District that we are helping with famine relief, both for the older people as well as feeding the children. Please pray for us to set up the feeding centers in a good way, so that they bring both nutritous food to the children as well as spiritual guidance and love.
Pray for Val. She has an ongoing recurrent fever, usually in the eveneings. It goes away after a short time, but brings weakness and lack of energy. It may be the so-called "Long COVID"?
October 2022. Val is busy working on her citizenship documents in Uganda, but it is being complicated by various government offices, which seem to be corrupt. Please pray for her to break through these blockages and find someone in these offices that will be helpful, kind and actively pursue the documents that we need to obtain.
September 2022. Waffle is flying to the USA, without Val!!! We had thought that Val would go first, then Waffle would follow, but it looks like Val is going to delay. She is busy working on getting the famine relief set up well, as well as doing her citizenship paperwork. Please pray for both of us, as being apart can be challenging. THe famine minstry is also overwelming at times. Pray for strength, wisdom, perseverance and enduring love for these suffering people.
August 2022. Things are getting tough out here in the villages. Following a very bad harvest this year (drought and army worms) and a hightened insecurity in the villages, very few families were able to cultivate the land to get food for their families. Please pray for the people to be able to endure until we can get emergency food rations to them. The children are the ones suffering the most, due to malnutrition.
June 2022. We hope to be able to come on furlough soon! We really miss everyone. This COVID season of separation has really been a tough one all around. Please pray that we can complete all of the things that we need to do before we travel to the states. Hope to see you soon!
April 2022. We have been at the Police station for much of this month. We have 2 issues: one is the land that we bought 7 years ago. the original owners have contiinuously refused to allow us to mark the borders, and have been leasing out our land to various people each year, while chasing us away with machetes or fire. Secondly, the huts and other structures that we have built on that land continue to be vandalized and burgled. We are pursuing 5 people that have conspired to commit burglary of items worth over $10,000. The police are following several leads and hope to capture them this month.
March 2022. This is looking like a Malaria month. Both Waffle and I have remnants of COVID for the second time, as well as malaria... Praying for strength to return soon and a good recovery. Our COVID symptoms are still relatively mild, praise God! Please be praying for the security here. THe gold mining villages have exploded with violence after 3 geologists were killed in the bush a few kilometers from one of our new village churches (Naput). People are fleeing the area and seeking safety in the larger towns.
February 2022. Our new Christian ECD (Early Childhood Development) centers, or Nursery schools, are really coming up well! We have some wonderful visitors who have helped us in the training and construction of the schools/churches. About 100 children have enrolled so far.
January 2022. Waffle and I both have COVID-19 now. Fortunately we have mild cases. It must be the Omicron variant. Please pray for our quick recovery. We have mostly upper respiratory signs, cough, with body aches, fever/chills and headache.
December 2021. Christmas in Kapchorwa! Pray for our time with Val's "African Family", and for some time to rest and relax on the cool mountain. Pray for our pastors-in - training as we take them for a Christian Conference on the mountain. Pray for their spiritual walk and their leadership development.
November 2021. Val has a 6 day ministry outreach with a group of international veterinarians to the Maasai in Kenya. She will be helping to mentor the new vets and share the gospel with the herdsmen and women in the kraals. Pray for her travels there and for the people to be receptive to the Gospel. :)
October 2021. CLIDE team meetings this month. Pray for our planning and for our unified vision for how the Lord could work in and through us this quarter.
September 2021
Armed warfare is still incresing, with frequent (weekly) gunfire i the villages around us. Several community members have been killed while trying to defend their homes. A Ugandan officer was shot down as well. I removed a bullet from a friendly-fire injured cow today. Pray for peace and security to return.
August 2021
I'm headed back to Uganda! It will be good to be with everyone there again. Please pray for Waffle. He has had a very bad anaphylactic reaction to bee stings. He called me in the midst of gasping for breath, looking for the epinephrine injection in the hut. Fortunately, they were able to get medicines in time, and I was able to be with him on the phone as they gave the medicines. Play for a full recovery and no more allergic incidents.
July 2021
Please pray for me, Val. It has been a bit rough in Uganda over the last several months and it has effected me psychologically. The warfare, suffering and death, the debilitating effects of the COVID shutdown on the people, and various sicknesses for Waffle and I, have all been draining. Pray for a good rest and time for me to be with God during my break in the USA. Thanks!
June 2021
Please pray for Val's family during our time together. We will have a remembrance for my brother-in-law, Tom Struzzierri, as well as a wedding for his daughter, Christie. Please pray for my sister, Michele as she goes through all of these transitions, trusting in the Lord with her heart.
Also pray for the security situation here in Karamoja. We hear machine gunfire from our hut several times in a week, and the innocent people have no guns to protect themselves any longer.
May 2021
Val will be coming to the states briefly to be with family. Our sister, Michele's, husband has passed away from COVID-19 and we will be gathering together to commemorate his life. I will meet my family in Virginia after a 2 week quarantine in a 200 yr old log cabin! Please pray for us all as we gather and spend time together.
After Virginia, I hope to travel to Oregon for a short visit and break time. I hope to see many of you, although my time will be very short. Please pray for travel to work out well and for the COVID restrictions to be reasonable!
April 2021
We have had another very bad raid on the Nakabaat mining village. The people have all run from their homes and have abandoned their mines and gold panning sites. The raiders have taken over and are not planning to leave, and the Ugandan miliatry and police are not going to be able to clear them out. Please pray for us to get a mining license for the people, so that the army and police will come back in and remove the marauders from the village.
March 2021
Pray for our 6 little fledgling churches that are coming up. With the COVID-19 lockdowns coming ang going, we can not reach them or meet with them at times. Pray that they will stay strong and that the Holy Spirit will guide them in His word when we are not able to get there.
January 2021
Please pray against CORRUPTION! It is election time in Uganda. We hope for free and fair elections, but the process is really stacked to benefit the corrupt and powerful. Pray that God would put the people that He wants us to have for the President, Parliment members and Local Councils. Pray that it does not get violent and that election officials have good accountability and integrity.
The internet is down and will continue to be down over the election period, by decree from the party in power. Please pray for us as we will have limited communications for at least a month or more.
December 2020
Christmas time with our new village churches should be very fun! We are planning re-enactments of the Christmas story, together with a big feast in each of the 6 churches. Waffle is donating some of our Ducks for the Christmas meal, and we are also going to roast a goat or two. The ducks have multiplied amazingly, with at least 60 of them quacking around here now! it has been an easy ministry to help pastors and poor families with food or breeding trios. Please pray that the Christmas church services would be impactful, and that our duck flock would continue to bless people!
There is a dilapidated adult learning center in one of the communities where we have a group of new believers, meeting under a tree for church. The community would like to give us this building to be restored to be used for the church. Please pray that the government officials will come beside us and help to make that possible, and not obstruct, ignore or demand bribes for the building. Waffle would like to rejuvenate it and give it another life!
We have a nice end of year get together with CLIDE members. It has been a slow year in some respects, due to COVID-19, but we really praise God that we are all healthy and progressing well through this season of unknowns. Please pray for our health and for our ministries to continue even when in lockdown or in isolation. Please pray for the extra donors that have come in at this time to help us work to prevent the spread of Corona, to help those effected by COVID lockdowns, and to spread the gospel to new communities during this time. God is really using you all!
October 2020
1. WOW!! Spiritual seeds have been planted We now have our 6th new church! The raiders who attacked Nakabaat mining village a few months ago are from Turkana, mixed with some from Matheniko. The Turkana have many cows and many guns and are related to the Karamojaong. We have been seeing them in Nakabaat, and they hang out around the edges of our church gatherings when we come to pray with the gold miners in Nakabaat. A couple weeks ago, I invited them to come sit with us and pray. They invited us to their village, and are now ready to begin a new church! We went there one time so far, and had 75 adults in attendance! They danced and sang songs with us, and listened to our Bible stories, earnestly answering the spiritual application questions. Pray for salvation and commitment from these new sprouts.
2. Our Farm Africa trainings are going well. We will finish up with Goat Fattening shorlty, then conclude our Leather Making and Milk Product trainings after that. Pray that God would build relationships with the local people through these trainings and connect us with them in a deeper way if He desires us to pursue their relationships.
_______________________+++++++++++++
Gunfire excalating in Kangole. Raiders near CLIDE office. One dead villager, another one shot and hiding overnight at the tree near our office. We try to stay in our hut as much as possible after dark, as armed raiders can be heard prowling around the community, breaking into people's homes. Please pray for our safety and the safety of the church leaders and community here.
Waffle's Mom has been bed ridden for several years, with an autoimmune disorder. We were hoping to be coming on furlough to visit her shortly, but COVID-19 has kept us locked in Uganda. Unfortunately, she has now passed away at her home in Colorado. Waffle's sister, Leigh and her husband Bill, have been taking excelletn care of her, but the disease continued to bring her down. We will all miss her so much.
We have recieved a grant from an organisation called Farm Africa. We will be teaching women in 42 community groups about 3 different Value-Added businesses: Goat rearing, Leather tanning, and Milk product development. We are excited to work wiith new communities and people and know that the Lord witl open up unique opportunities to share His love, hope and message. Pray for our trainings to be inspirational and encouraging for the ladies.
Mentoring Church Planters
Our PPBB Project: Pastors, Prostitutes and BodaBodas. COVID-19 lockdown is destroying the livelihoods of the poor. Those in povery have very little resilience when changes happen in their lives. they have no bank accounts, savings, stored food or even possessions that they can sell to buy food during the lockdown. They live day-to-day, getting just enough to survive till the next one. When movements are restricted and markets are shut down, they have no where to get food or money. We researched to see which groups were the most badly hit, and discovered that defiinitely Pastor and motorcyle taxi drivers were seriously disenfranchised through the Lock down. We started buying seeds for them to plant, so that they would have food for their family growing in their back yards. Then we heard of antoher group that was practically going out of business.... the Prostitutes! With social distancing being mandatory and effectively preventing the spread of Corona, no one was participating in their business! We decided that this may be the ideal time to help these prostitutes leave their profession and begin another more reliable, safe and wholesome job. We started with providing food for them, developing relationships, and hope to help them begin other businesses sometime next year. Please pray for our Prostitutes, Pastors and Bodoboda taxi drivers to make it thorugh the COVID lockdown and to see the loving hand of God in their lives during this time.
Raiders attack Nakabaat and the whole village flees in TERROR! We rescued them after they ran through the bush in the night.

May 2020
1. God is doing alot in our new churches. Although we cannot officially meet with them in church services, we travel to see them and discuss COVID-19 issues, share a few Bible Stories and help them with COVID-related challenges in their villages. We are helping provide food to those who have little during this Corona Shutdown, especially pastors. We also provide seeds for them to plant in their gardens, since they may not get an income for a significant time.
2. We have alot of new people interested in the gospel, from several gold mining villages. I went there to help with the COVID 19 situation, and to do training and sensitization, but found many people hungry for God and for His power in their lives. Pray for wisdom in how to approach this situation.
April 2020
1. Pray! Corona has come to Uganda! Airports are closed, people from overseas are evacuating. All traffic is shut down, all planes grounded, all people told to stay at home and not gather together. 7pm curfew every night.
2. Pray for our Corona Task Force: Moroto District. We have PastorGrace who is planning to begin living there to help us minister to the people and mentor the new believers. Kakingol church is up the escarpment. We ususally need to put our Landy into 4WD to get up the rocky curves and rough ditches. We have a group of 3 young men and one young lady who are really growing there. Pastor Moses Lochap is helping us to mentor them. He loves to go out hut to hut with these guys and pray for people.

The 3 boreholes are all broken, and people are drinking and cooking using water from muddy puddles. Pray that we can get some borehole mechanics that can determine the problems so that the people no longer suffer like this, and the Clinic can open.

2. Pray for our health: for Val to get over her malaria well, and for no parasites to continue to stay in her liver. Waffle still has the Shingles, but they are responding well to an herbal medicine that Val is applying.
3. Pray for our Overnight Prayer in our new little Nakiloro church! We will have 20 hours together praising and praying and worshiping and learning from God's Word! We expect 100 people to show up!

Please pray for each of our CLIDE members, as we open our hearts to God's leading in a deeper and more impactful way.
June 2019
1. Pray for the Land Rover! We have taken it to so many mechanics, and each has made it worse! It started -with a "engine power-washing incident", but has progressed to a multi-faceted mechanical breakdown. It looks like we have to buy a new engine! I don't think we will ever power wash our engines again! We don't have enough funds to do this, so we need prayer for God to bring in resources that are needed.
2. Val is in the USA this month, for her Mom's memorial in Fossil. Pray for the family and for God to be near to us all at this time. May the memorial be a time of rejoicing in a life well lived for the Lord!

3. Pray for our future Celebrate Recovery training (it's like a Christian AA program). We have postponed it due to a significant accident that happened to one of our US facilitators. 2. Construction teams are going strong! The Landy is out with the gang in Ngenge now, with a bunch of our sponsored kids, putting up our hut and latrine. This is land that we hope to one day build a Discipleship and Leadership Training Center. Pray for God's hand on this vision!
3. Sponsored kids are doing well, but need prayers for their next year of studies. Pray for good health, good concentration and cooperation with one another.
December 2018
1. Waffle has kidney stones!! They have been very painful, and we need to get a successful surgery! We have tried a couple times in Kampala, but the surgeons were not able to visualize the stones, due to equipment problems and surgical challenges. Please pray that we can get a better opportunity to get these out. Waffle has a stent in to keep his ureter open, so that the stones do not block urine flow from the kidney. The stent has been causing some bleeding and is uncomfortable.
2. Construction team from Suburban Christian and NW Hills in Corvallis is coming soon! They want to help us with building our first hut in Ngenge, on our land where we hope to one day have a Discipleship Training Center. November 2018
1. Please pray for Waffle to heal from his Kidney stone surgeries. He had a very painful kidney stone incident and went in for 2 surgeries. He has a stint in now to help any other stones to be expelled. Pray for his pain level, and for the removal of the stint in a week or so.
2. Pray for our friend Dorie, who was visiting us in Uganda, then traveled to Rwanda. She became very sick in Rwanda and was hospitalized with possible pneumonia and malaria. The treatments in the hospital were not sufficient and she called me (Val) in Uganda and asked me to help evacuate her back to the states. So I flew to Rwanda and then to the US with her, helping with the flights and wheelchairs and travel needs. She is doing better now, back in Portland, but is still weak.

It is a 2014 vehicle and Uganda does not allow easy importation of vehicles that are 5 years old or more, requiring a huge Environmenatl Tax. Please pray that we can get it through the customs process before the end of December.
