Health Promotion. Our Peace Villages are located in isolated, hard to reach areas. The roads are sometimes impassable and the people living there cannot get out easily for medical care. We have therefore trained several Village Health Team members who live in the communities who can care for their own community members. We have a missionary nurse, Jennifer Kragt, who has been monitoring these VHTs and continues training and supplying them with basic medications as possible. We now need an indigenous, Ugandan national nurse to provide more sustainable health services in the communities. We built the little clinic, and it is ready for patients to come. We just need a small nurses quarters, a simple home for the nurse to live, and someone can be hired to step into that role. Currently, there is very little health care, and children are suffering from common, preventable diseases. A nurse is needed as soon as possible! Praise God, we were able to get enough funds to build this nurse's home in the peace village! Thanks for helping!
Water and Sanitation. Over the last several years, CLIDE has assisted with drilling of boreholes in both Nabwal and Nakayot peace communities. The sanitation of the area, however, was still inadequate. We then formed and trained Health and Sanitation committees in Nakayot who could then monitor and encourage improved health in the villages. Water use committees monitor the boreholes and report breakage or problems with the water sources in the area. We have one more well (borehole) that we will put in this year, but need to do a couple more early next year. Anybody who wants to contribute, would be appreciated! The people really need clean drinking water! Donations go to the Karamoja Peace Project.
HIV and AIDS Prevention. HIV infection rate in Uganda has been going down over the last several years, but many people are still infected, with new cases of AIDS occuring frequently. Working with several HIV affected groups, we have been assisting with income generating projects as well as training and counseling for the affected families.
